When he nudged her, her easily thinning resolve crumbled. She sniffled, staring into her mug as if it of all things could prevent her from crying. She had always kept everything bottled up. Even when she complained about things, she feigned indifference in the end. She never openly complained about something with real emotion. She always hid it as she saw fit. There was something about the whole atmosphere that set her off. Tears welled in her large eyes and before she knew it she was sobbing into a mug of hot cocoa.
Emma had tried not to cry but it was almost as if that sudden human contact was enough to snap her back to the reality of her situation. "He's an idiot. He married her, and she doesn't love him but.." she drew in a breath shakily. "He loves her and it's all so stupid. He's stupid. She only wants his money. She pretends to care but in the end she knows she'll get his entire fortune to herself and then she can throw me out." Maybe she was exaggerating a bit, but there were times when you just had to pull out the rich bitch card.
