[Final Fantasy XII] [Basch, Vossler] [Rated E] Burden
Title: Burden
Fandom/Pairing: Final Fantasy XII; Basch, Vossler
Rating: ESRB Rating of E for Everyone < none >
Summary: The scale-and-leather armor didn't help matters, though at least it was light in color.
Notes: For leviathanmirror's request: Basch, Giza Plains
The sun shone hotly down on them all. The scale-and-leather armor didn't help matters, though at least it was light in color. Vossler's armor, evidently recently polished, glittered painfully.
Basch averted his eyes from the brightness. Everything else around them was grey or brown. Dark. Easier. Not a patch of verdant green in sight. Even the wildlife looked grubby, unassuming.
The one exception, of course, was the giant stones on the horizon. They glowed gold. Like miniature suns, all of them. They were both his favorite and least favorite part of the scenery. Favorite because they were fascinating. Least favorite because they were giving him a headache.
"Are you even sure you can take that back to the Palace?" Vossler asked, one hand on his hip in an almost stern gesture.
"Her Majesty asked me to try," he replied.
Another Knight laughed. "If Her Majesty willed it, I wager he'd carry it with him to court."
Basch didn't let it goad him. He was the newest member of the Order. He was young, to them un-proven, and Landis had but recently fallen. The princess' whims—which she had so startlingly few of—were as law to them all, so long as her father did not countermand her orders. Particularly for him, as captain of her guard.
Nevertheless, when he trod on one of the few, sparse growths of grass, it was with slightly more force than necessary. The grass was tough underneath his feet. If he'd been unshod, it likely would have felt prickly.
The bundle of fur in his arms jumped. It had almost calmed, almost accepted its situation. He sighed.
At least Happy Bunnies were mostly friendly creatures. It calmed a little as he scratched it behind the ears.
