While the invitation wasn't specifically meant just and completely for him, Tony wasn't about to snub the offer to see how this version of Captain Danvers handled herself- there was always going to be an element of Carol Danvers that was an unapologetic hard-ass who got things done, this must have been the base of the building blocks in every universe where something her-shaped took up residence. There were things that were undeniably true about people, about their characters and how they were made, he expected there were a few less than desirable things about himself that if he poked hard enough, he'd find out about their version of himself. -- he only hoped that the heartache and the dark things that followed her back where he was from had managed to be staved off for a while here - and when it was all said and done, she was always going to be important to Rhodey, and he was family, somewhere out there she was probably family too, and Tony was at the point in his life where he was trying to make those bridges look less charred than they should have been. Youth being what it is, well youth and a lot of other things.
So, the opportunity was going to be taken with the same kind of gusto and peacocking that the world would have come to love or hate from someone barring the name Stark. ..it was more his last name than Howard's anyway.
When Carol was talking to Pilot about starting to set off and getting things together, he'd slipped past the door with his hands in his pockets, not really hiding so much but obscuring the fact that he was wearing the trackers that would call the suit if need be. Tony nodded and told Pilot he'd be good - and to tell Deke that he'd left the ripped information out of the suit that was the Three Stooges and Bugs Bunny cartoons out in his quarters if he'd get some time or get bored. Still though, smiling broadly while approaching the shuttle to take them down, Tony siddled up beside Carol and nodded a little before scuttling in and stretching his arms over his head - complete with connective circuitry that was made out of a vibranium/adamantium alloy that had bright blue connective ports at his palms and joints. ..he wasn't going to go off ship without some security measures in place.
Tony slid up and over toward the pilot's seat and swiveled in the chair next to it, his hands behind his head, "I know I'm second choice, but if we wait around, Rogers might show up and then both of you can call each other Captain while I twiddle my thumbs and try to bring up MiT," laughing at himself more than anything else.
