three; starting to understand [17 Jan 2009|03:54pm]

The past couple of months had passed by so slowly to Astoria. After that one night of being trapped in a room with Draco she had been hesitant to show her face at parties for a while. It had taken Daphne and her mother lots of wheedling to get her to finally go out again, though she had stated a few terms of her own and an agreement had been reached. She wouldn't go off on her own if she could leave when she wanted withing polite reason. She would make the effort and Daphne wouldn't insist she always be at her side. The worst part about going out in society again was the gossip; the fact that she had disappeared overnight was quite scandalous, and if she had gotten resentful looks before, the glares she received now from some people were downright murderous. She dealt, however, and made a good show of keeping her chin up.

i'll be your best kept secret and your biggest mistake. )

two; locked up [12 Jan 2009|11:06pm]

It had been just over a week since the party at Parkinson Manor. Narcissa had seemed pleased, albeit suspicious, when Draco had returned home and mentioned that he'd spent the night talking to Pansy. Her carefully watching eyes should have been the first clue that something was going to happen, but Draco had retreated to his side of the house without much thought. The night he'd met Astoria had been extremely awkward, but not for the simple reason that he'd been caught chatting with Daphne's little sister. What made things difficult was that Draco had actually preferred the company of Astoria to anyone else. It was almost like being alone, but ... better, because you weren't actually alone.

love me, hate me, either way you drive me crazy )

one; meetings [07 Jan 2009|01:24am]

Astoria always felt out of place at these sort of functions. She had never liked them. Daphne was the social one, the perfect Pureblood elder daughter, the pretty blonde with the bright laugh and sultry smile, who always knew what to say. Astoria was quiet and sullen and more awkward, a shadow or her sister. Which suited her fine. She had no large dreams, no ideas of marrying well and climbing even higher up the social ladder -- not that there was much higher up to go than the Greengrasses. Between their family, the Malfoys and the Parkinsons, they had claim to some of the oldest Wizarding blood, especially now that the Blacks were all but gone. So many families were gone, or nearly gone, or reduced to nothing but a name. It saddened her and made her sick, really. So much destruction.

it's the wrong kind of place to be thinking of you. )
