Okay, perhaps fix was a poor choice of word on her part. What they did legitimately have was a major problem. In fact, the big problem stemmed into several smaller problems, each one seemingly more frustrating than the last. Mostly it was because she knew they weren't going to see eye to eye on most of the issues. This whole pregnancy was going bring into stark contrast all the differences of opinions they had about the status of a resurrected individual within society; for the most part, they could disagree now. They could find ways to compromise, but if she was really pregnant, compromising, she had a feeling, was going to go right out the window.
The mention of having two parents made her want to inadvertently bristle a bit; after all, she had grown up partially without her own father, and she had turned out just fine. But the difficult part was losing a father, not ever having had one. And that was another issue that Amarissa knew needed to be addressed but was tentative to bring up. They didn't know if such a transformation was permanent. It was something she didn't want to think, and she wasn't entirely sure that James had even considered the possibility, but if it really was a spell that had brought him back, it might have an expiration date. Or, the caster could chose to end it. There were a whole slew of unknown possibilities. Not to mention, there was always the chance that Lily could return. Amarissa was careful never to mention her in front of James, because she understood what a tender subject it was. Really, she did, and she respected the fact that James loved his wife and whatnot. But it became a legitimate concern if he was really adamant about getting married, and if she was actually pregnant, having the child. It was fine for him to return, but she needed the whole truth about the matter, because it could lead to a very possibility of her raising a kid on her own. Not to mention, was he still legally married? The implication was that if he wasn't he couldn't be legally married again.
And why was he being so difficult about explaining things? Everyone. Anyone their child ever encountered. It wasn't like things would ever be normal. How could they explain to their child how things were? How could a five year old comprehend that his or her father had once been dead? That after being revived, they had been born and were actually related to Harry Potter, but that was a factor that had to be well hidden? Well, Amarissa thought should be well hidden. She doubted James would feel the same, and that was probably why he was being so stubborn about this.
"How do we explain to people that you've come back from the dead, James? How would you explain that to a small child?" Amarissa returned, sounding a bit more exasperated than normal. "That's not a typical circumstance to deal with, and would be best kept secret."
Oh sweet Merlin. Being the step mother to Harry Potter wasn't even something that had entered her head until James had insinuated it just then. Sure, it had been a staggering blow to think about having his half sibling, but step mother was another thing entirely. Take a bit to get used to? It was overwhelmingly strange and difficult. And almost just not fair. It almost made her want to say that there was no way this was going to plausibly work out; how could everything not end messily?
