She didn't know if going to someone local truly was the best decision, but then, it also seemed as if she hadn't known what was best for a long. Essentially, she realized what it had come down to, was that if she was pregnant, whether she went to Spain or not to find out, she was probably going to have to give up her position, her career. If she was and she told them, her credibility was gone. She had always been known for being strictly professional, a bit cold, yes, but good at her job because of her ability to focus. It was all gone the moment anyone found out. And James was clearly disinclined to allow any part of himself to be found back in that area. If it was his baby, this was perhaps the end.
It took her a moment to figure out who she was talking about, but then realized it must have been Hector. Which made her want to laugh, just for the sheer irony of it. He had always become something of a surrogate father to her, and she was fairly certain that his reaction would be less than professional if he found out that she was pregnant with James' child. He was trustworthy, though, James was right about that through and through. He would protect her if need be, maybe be able to give her some advice on what to do.
And then, there was the last bit that she wasn't expecting. Meet her family? Meet her family. It seemed incredibly archaic for a moment. Sure, Amarissa was aware that James wasn't exactly from this time, but rarely did it present itself overtly. More often, it was merely as if he were extremely knowledgeable about the past, but fit quite nicely into the present. It just seemed so ridiculous, bringing James home to meet her mother. Her mother, who ever since Amarissa had been hurt, had grown a bit silent in her protests. She didn't know how she would react to that news. It would perhaps be worse than when she had been hurt. And well, to be blunt, she had always been so careful to keep her family separated from her work. It was a consistency she needed. It stabilized her. She didn't even have any pictures of her mother or Brandon in her home at number 13. The difficulty of being pregnant with his child rose fresh in her mind. Because nothing would ever be normal again if she was. They didn't stand a chance at giving any kid any sane upbringing. The magnitude of just how insane it was still was overwhelming.
"That will take quite a bit of working up to," she finally managed to say. While it had seemed absolutely absurd at first, she didn't know what else really was to be done if she was going to have a kid. It would be stranger for her mother to never meet the father of her child, wouldn't it? Probably.
