Amarissa was nearly startled by his sudden motion. He had seemed incredibly distant, fixated in the same spot across the room so long. And that wasn't a surprise, she could understand that. It wasn't an easy nor simple topic they were discussing. James to finally be recovering from the initial shock, however. It was something that Amarissa wasn't sure she could even get over, in truth. She didn't refute what James said, because it felt as though it would have taken up too much effort. And it would have been too selfish. The likelihood of everything turning out okay was relatively low, but maybe that was just some blind faith they needed to trust in for the moment. Because, well, maybe there was nothing else that could be believed in now.
She let him draw her closer. Normally, she felt, she wouldn't have allowed such a motion, would have maybe teased him about it. It smacked a bit too much of dependency, of neediness for her liking. That also seemed incredible apt for this situation. She let her eyes fall shut for a moment, her cheek resting against the fabric of his shirt. She could faintly hear the beat of his heart, and it steadied her for a moment. She took in a deep breath, trying to reason and rationalize through everything.
It probably shouldn't have been a surprise that he didn't want her to go to Spain to deal with this. It was, in truth, a double edged sword. She understood that. She was willing to see the positives they would bring to such a situation, and he was seeing the negatives. There was the possibility of odd tests, of research, and she knew that probably scared him on some level. And with good reason, she thought. His concerns weren't amiss. She just wondered if the benefits outweighed the costs. Amarissa thought they did, but then, she also wondered if this was worth fighting over. Would it just be easier to let him have his way on this one? She wasn't sure.
"We'll talk it over," Amarissa relented somewhat. If he truly cared enough to bring it up, she would try to find some way to placate him. "We'll work something out."
