Amarissa let her eyes fall shut for a brief moment, trying to concentrate long enough to properly answer James' question. She knew the general idea of how far back she could remember. But, she was still hoping that if she thought about it more, she would be able to coax something new from her mind. Nothing new came to her though. Just the same old, worn set of memories that she had tinkered over time and time again. She ran one hand through the short locks of her hair.
"I just remembering here." Amarissa answered, meeting James' gaze again. "And... when I woke up, I was outside somewhere. It was dark. I don't know. I apparated back here, and then took the Floo back to Spain."
She was afraid of what he was thinking. It was a line of thought that was even more extreme than what she had dared to think just a few moments ago. But, what he was getting at, what he was implying, it was just impossible. It was a precarious edge to balance on, and the idea that she might have die- No. It just - It couldn't have happened. Even the implications of what James was saying made her insides and her throat clench uncomfortably. She wasn't sure if she could swallow or even ask him if that was what he thought.
"You don't think -?" Amarissa managed to get the words out, hoping that he would be able to tell what she was implying based solely off of her inability to say it.
