James was suddenly off, rambling about - well, Amarissa didn't right know what. She had almost interjected a comment or two, but he seemed content to keep going, so she let him, one of her eyebrows quirking a bit as he spoke. How exactly had they gone from the topic of grandparents all the way to pygmypuff championships? Although, now that he brought up, she was pretty sure that her dad had bought one those for Sofia one year. When she turned eleven, unless Amarissa missed her guess, kind of as way to console her about the fact that she wasn't going to be traipsing off to the fancy wizarding school that Gabriel had the privilege of attending. But that wasn't the point in the slightest. Time to get off the pygmypuff topic.
"James." she said after a moment, trying to slow down his rapid speech. "Are you all right?"
She didn't really know if it was her place to ask. But he just seemed to be acting so peculiar. Well, more peculiar than usual. Even when he was drunk last time. Okay, that had ended in the two of them climbing drunkenly into a tub together and falling asleep there, but this oddness seemed to stem from something entirely different. She'd rather ask and be wrong than not have asked when she should have. Besides, she was fairly certain that if there was anything that James didn't want to share, he wouldn't. But at least she had placed the opportunity and chance out there just in case he needed to.
