"Well, yes," Amarissa responded wryly. "What opportunity do you think would have presented itself that I would be at a stag party?" After all, more than likely, the main reason that a female would be at a stag party was the one that James had just presented - as part of the entertainment, and Amarissa felt that she had already made it plenty clear that she hadn't ever been involved in such activities, despite whatever disappointment James might feel over such a revelation.
But, Amarissa couldn't help but observe, James seemed a bit off tonight. She couldn't precisely explain what it was, but he just didn't seem to be quite himself. Perhaps it was just that he had had too much to drink, but she had been around him before when he was drinking. She pushed the thought to the back of her mind, and watched him instead, allowing him to subtly shift the topic away from girls in cakes and parties and back to the holidays. And then it even took her a moment to realize what he was asking, almost confused at why she would be attending an Auror Christmas party. But it had been quite some time since she had really been involved in a proper Auror unit, hadn't it? And now, who knew what she was classified as.
"Oh." Amarissa answered, one hand pausing in her hair. "No, I mean. I went home today for a bit." She didn't know if that was really safe information to divulge. It probably wasn't too harmful to say that she had gone back to Spain. She tended to be slightly more mum on the topic of her family. Hell, she didn't even tend to carry pictures of Brandon on her for fear that someone would decide to go after the family. The attack on Sofia and Gabriel had shifted her perceptions on everything about the world, and she was more protective of her mother and nephew now, slowly to reveal anything about to them to any body that could vaguely relate to her job.
