"I do try." Amarissa said with a slight smile on her face. She leaned up against the arm of the couch, her head resting on the top of it so that she could watch him easier. She wondered just what had motivated him to come over so late. Not that she minded, of course, but it seemed strange that he would go wandering outside of number 12 so late on the holidays. And without Sirius or Remus. Had he managed to give them the slip or had he perhaps lost Sirius somewhere? The last part wouldn't be particularly surprising. Maybe she'd walk out onto her stoop the next morning to discover an incapacitated Sirius Black sprawled out there, left cpurteous of one inebriated James Potter.
"You know, I think that might be a worldwide male fantasy," Amarissa said thoughtfully, pressing a finger to her lips as if she were taking James' suggestion seriously. "And I rather think that fails to come true any place. Sorry to disappoint." She also considered asking if it was really fair to have a birthday if one had already died, but refrained from bringing up the topic. It was easier - and much less strange - when avoided entirely, and Amarissa didn't have the mental capacity to deal with such an issue at the moment.
