James winced at Remus' words. The man was right, that was a lousy way to tell someone - but was all he'd had. Lily was always so much better at this sort of thing. Now he feared he'd made a bad situation worse. He gave Remus a reproachful nod of acknowledgment.
When Sirius began to retreat James stood. Sirius' accusatory glance had a biting sting, and all James could offer was an apologetic, pleading expression. Sirius had to know he wouldn't have kept this from him.
"Padfoot, this Remus - our Remus - didn't marry her, it happened after you died - neither Remus nor Tonks even remember any of it," he said trying to talk sense into him. Now was not the time to flip out.
