Really, in the back of his mind he thought she might be having him on, and that at the crucial moment she might suddenly change gears. Then again, a car ride probably wasn't much of a big deal to her. It was crazy, some of the things muggle saw as mundane.
"Fantastic," he said, quite pleased with himself, before stepping back outside.
A wave of his hand was all he offered to indicate that he needed a moment as he headed back toward number 12. Quickly nipping inside to summon the keys, James reemerged from number 12. Moments later he was holding the driver side door open for her and turning over the keys. Once James settled into the passenger seat that little tug on the back of his mind became more insistent. He was still forgetting something, and oddly enough it hadn't been the keys. Brief was the list his mind began reviewing: Sirius was out of town, he had the keys, he had someone significantly less likely to wrap the car around a tree- well, he'd assumed, anyway.
"When was the last time you drove a car?" he asked.
