It took him a moment to understand what Harry's open hand was wanting. He chuckled, and harder then as Harry began searching himself. The bleary sort of almost-fumbling was all too familiar. At Harry's last question, he gave a little start of recollection. His empty hand reached down, extracting Harry's glasses from where he'd cleverly tucked him into his sock. Normally he'd just have shrunk them down and popped them in his pocket, but in front of that many muggles it wouldn't have been such a great idea to just pull out his wand. No muggles about now, though. A tap of his wand had the glasses clean and unbent before he popped them into Harry's hand.
"You didn't really think I'd let you loose them, did you?" he smiled.
Once Harry's hand wand free again, James slipped his own fag, barely started even, between Harry's ring and middle fingers, just like James held his own. After all, the whole night had seemed like something of a rite of passage, the sort of carefree gentleman's evening that he wanted Harry to be able to enjoy the same as he had. Hell, as he still did. And really, the things were practically harmless, especially to wizards. It wasn't perhaps the best habit in the world, but James was never one for saying no to people he loved if he could help it. Besides, it had always helped to steady his swimming head the morning after.
"Just don't tell your mother," he cautioned, his chuckle bubbling up again.
It was saying something like phrase that gave James a quick jolt of really feeling like a father. His own dad had said the exact same thing to him countless times. There was something to it, a sort of bond that fathers and sons would always have things just for them, and usually things mothers would sigh and shake their heads at. Really, in James' parents' house, there was no greater sin than upsetting him mum. It was a sentiment that had rather stuck with him. Cupping a new cigarette against the ocean breeze, he lit the second for himself. After all, Lily just didn't like his smoking around her. So he reckoned this was pretty harmless, too.
"Well, you appear to have survived," he surmised with a smirk as he gave his arms a stretch. His voice was still a bit rough, but that was only to be expected. "Not too much worse for the wear?"
