He chuckled and smiled. "Yeah... so I've heard. Sirius seemed to think you were insane for all the abuse you took from Mum while she was deciding if she loved you or hated you." he shook his head, looking around at the crowd that had been slowly building on the patio where they sat. "Luna and I haven't exactly been that way... seemed like I was nearly the only one who didn't think she was too strange for words. But really, we just sort of understood each other." he grinned, thinking of her. "We're moving in together, you know, soon as we find a flat."
"Merlin, I thought it was bad when she hated me," he admitted. "You know she left me for a week, for a week when I asked her to marry me?"
He shook his head, now at least able to laugh at the memory of it. After all, he'd known she'd be back. Mostly. As Harry went on he felt something a great... vicarious satisfaction. Love, it meant everything, it really did. It could make you mad and miserable, but it made everything in life worth it. And strange, James figured, was all too relative. Still, it was probably Lily shining right on through, that it wouldn't faze Harry in the slightest bit. The concession might have stung once, but even James was willing to admit his own shortcomings.
"Yeah?" he beamed. "That's brilliant! When did this happen? Merlin, you've got to bring her 'round, I don't care if we have to abduct your mum from work."
He laughed again, falling into the easy rhythm of drinking and talking with his son. After they finished the second round of drink Harry had procured, James insisted it was time to get down to the business of the day before they were both completely useless.
