In the wee early hours early this morning a brood of tooth fairies got loose in the muggle village of Nafferton, killing 34 muggles before Aurors could be brought in to diffuse the situation.
Tooth fairies, indigenous to Scandinavia, have not been sighted outside of Finland since 1744. The majority of the species is carefully monitored on habitat preserves for the safety of muggle communities. These distant relations to pixies feed primarily on calcium-dense matter, periosteum, and dentin, or bones. While feeding as a brood they attack the teeth first, hence the common name "tooth fairy." While these pests are quickly made harmless by simple charms, with no wizards nearby 33 muggles were consumed in the town proper. When Aurors arrived on the scene they quickly diffused the situation and have traced the source to the residence of a Mr. Kevin Wade, a local muggle.
Though it still remains unconfirmed, it is suspected he purchased the brood on the dark market. It is entirely possible he did not know what he was purchasing. The container itself was opened with a crude, non-magic corrosive acid which appears of have killed at least 5 of the original 60 fairies. It is unclear what will happen to the rest of the brood, whether they will be put down or released to preserve. Neither the Minister nor the Muggle Minister could be reached for comment. The Prophet will be working tirelessly to update you as the events unfold.
