Separatists Arrested
Filomena Frampton
(ooc by Kimberly)
Late last night the MLE acted on anonymous tips, finding and arresting nine witches and wizards connected with the Magic Liberation Front. This movement seems to be behind the attacks on mixed marriages between magic and nonmagic people. Two hide-outs were discovered and cleared last night. An abandoned house in Holyhead was found to be the headquarters, and plans for a variety of attacks, including one set for Hogsmeade on a weekend when Hogwarts students would be present. The other hide-out was a small residence in Godric Hollow belonging to widow Sophronia Thellae (neƩ Peverell). Mrs Thellae could not be reached for comment.
Our sources in the Ministry have revealed that the arrests last night are the only first. "We will not stop until all threats to our safety have ended. We know there are several Separatist groups plotting violence and instigating terror. While some may not seem threatening on the surface, the network that has been revealed in this first raid shows us otherwise. Many gentle and peace-loving witches and wizards can be fooled into supporting and participating in violent and dangerous actions."
However, one thing is clear, the Magic Liberation Front is not claiming credit for the Dark Mark graffiti that was seen this summer.
Letter to the Editor
(ooc by Laura)
Dear editor,
Am I the only one furious about those horrible marks put up all over the place? Have we gotten anywhere closer to catching the awful people who clearly endorse the sort of muggle-hating, violent prejudice that made it possible for You-Know-Who to go so far and do so much wrong. We shouldn't tolerate this! We should be crying out for their punishment. By doing anything else, as a society we're saying that it's acceptable, that what You-Know-Who and his followers did was somehow okay. Is that the message we want to send, as integration is just getting started? I should think not! We have to show muggles that we can control our own, that we aren't a threat to them.
And those opposed to integrating are almost as bad. It's absolutely absurd! The folks who think we should completely cut muggles off because they're different from us? There's a word for that sort of attitude: bigotry. Sure, muggles are different from us, but we're not really any better, we just have more resources at our disposal. Think of all the good we could do, all the problem we could help them solve by sharing our magical gifts with them. They shouldn't have to suffer through the trials we could spare them from just because they weren't lucky enough to be born with magic. It's unfair and elitest, and I for one have no desire to return to the bigotry and the bloodshed that came of it.
Still fuming,
Charles Anderson
