Tibby took Lucius through to the study, despite his ability to find his own way. He could never remember it being his own, but he'd certainly been inside it enough times when it had belonged to his father. It was the source of a few pleasant memories, though mostly not. He had always much preferred being summoned to his father's study, rather than Abraxas breaching the privacy of his bedroom. When it had only been the two of them, they had lived almost separately. It was only once Narcissa arrived that Lucius and Abraxas had been forced into one another's company.
Now it was Draco's, though Lucius knocked at the door in familiar fashion and waited. It was an uneasy acceptance that Draco was now the master of the house - resentment and relief mingled as one.
The house-elf cringed a little more than usual as she vanished from sight, confused and distraught by her former master's blood-bound disguise. Lucius wondered what the wards had made of his presence, though he suspected that Malfoy blood was entrenched deep enough into the foundations to recognise him.
Since his return, he and Draco had hardly made the effort to know one another. They had sensed one another's ill-ease, and seemed to have made silent, mutual agreement. But given the present arrangement, Lucius felt it only polite to speak with him. Certainly Lucius didn't feel that he was reporting his actions; the extent to which Draco deluded himself, or not, was unknown. But Draco surely felt no firm grip over the actions of either Lucius or Bellatrix. Out of sight, out of mind. But part of Lucius was reluctant to let Draco slip from his peripheral vision.
