The Yaxley who had served the Dark Lord alongside Lucius was dead. He had been killed in the final battle at Hogwarts, the same battle that had claimed both Bellatrix and the Dark Lord himself. After his death (as had happened with the estate of almost every former Death Eater) the Ministry had taken a large sum from the wealth Yaxley held. As a manipulator of the Ministry itself, he had been made quite an example of. Their sizeable home itself had been taken by the Ministry and sold at a ridiculously low price.
His son, Elias Yaxley, was twenty-four. During the second war his mother had left the country, taking her son with her. This Yaxley had never been marked, and to all appearances did not seem to sympathise with the Dark Lord's cause - though, he was of course not out-spoken on this fact. He had distanced himself from it all. It seemed that he had met his wife, another ex-patriot, when he was nineteen. They had married at twenty, and had two children.
Elias was not poor. The Yaxleys were not as wealthy as his own family, but they were wealthy, even after the Ministry's pawing through their vaults. Their home in Russia was a fair size, and would reap a decent sale.
Bellatrix had certainly done her homework, and Lucius was quietly impressed.
They visited Yaxley's home several times; checking the grounds, the minimal security. Lucius suspected the house wards worked in a similar way to those of Malfoy Manor. They would be identified upon entry to the building, presumably to Yaxley initially, but there would be time for both to be on guard. Yaxley would also know if they tried to break down the wards and various hexes that covered the building, so there was no point working on them before the night.
Lucius touched the lockets inside his inner pocket, running through their plans in his own mind. He would work on the hexes, whilst Bella gained more forceful entry. Lucius was accurate and precise, but there was no denying that Bella was more powerful. Different situations called for a different hand, and their methods had always complimented each other well.
Nothing seemed amiss as they arrived at the house. It was late enough that no candle light flickered behind the windows. Lucius and Bella moved in almost complete darkness, only a sliver of light visible from each wand.
