Harry had been spending most of his time at Luna's... and as such, only had a bit of clothing there. He'd been taking it back and forth, but he was tiring of the ones he'd taken with him. Of course, stopping back by his flat was in order, and he leaned on the counter in the kitchen as his clothes cleaned themselves, drinking a bit of juice from the fridge.
It was the end of the work day for Hermione and she wanted to stop at home before she went to do errands. She was surprised to find that Harry was there as she hadn’t seen him in quite some time.
“Harry!” Hermione dropped her things and ran to hug him. “Where have you been? I haven’t seen you in ages.”
He smiled and returned her hug heartily. "Hey you!" he said as he let her go. "I've been here and there... you knew I was sent to Wales for a bit. Let's see... the quick version is I quit my job and got a girlfriend." he remarked casually. He'd retold the story so many times that he just couldn't bring himself to recount it with much care, unless she asked for details. He took a sip of his juice. "Good juice... I assume you bought it? I'll pay you back for it." he smiled, setting it on the counter.
Hermione pulled back and stared at Harry in shock. “You quit? Why?” She hated to think of Harry without a job. She tuned back in to what he was saying at the word ‘girlfriend’. “Is it Ginny? She never said anything…” Then again, Hermione hadn’t seen Ginny in awhile either. She had been so caught up in her new job and volunteering during the Prime Minister’s visit. Plus, with Alexis’s new offer, she had so much to think about.
He quirked an eyebrow. "That's funny, why does everyone ask me if it's Gin?" he asked with a note of amusement. "No, it's not Ginny. It's actually Luna." he smiled a bit sheepishly. "We'd been getting closer for a while, but now... well, she's agreed to be my girlfriend... we've even gone to Paris for a bit. And... well, I quit because I didn't want to deal with the pressure."
It took a moment to register what Harry had just revealed to Hermione. “Luna?” How had that happened? It suddenly hit Hermione that she really didn’t know Harry anymore. Yes, his personality and habits, but not what he did everyday and whom he met up with. Had she really gotten so wrapped up in her career and Ron that she hadn’t seen the signs?
“Well, I’m happy for you, Harry,” Hermione said. “I wish you had kept your job but if it was making you miserable.” She tried to stay positive but she felt a little lost. She wished she had known about all of this while it was happening.
“So how serious are you and Luna?” she asked.
He shrugged. "I don't reckon we're that serious. I mean, maybe we are. It's hard to tell. I've been staying at her flat lately, but that's not all that serious. And as for my career... well, it's time to do something else, though I'm not sure what I'm going to do." He pondered a moment. He was reluctant to say anything about why he really quit. "So... how are you and Ron doing? I mean, I know he's moved... are you alright with that?"
“Harry, there are so many opportunities out there for you, I know you’ll find something.” Hermione gave him a reassuring smile. “And, with Luna by your side, I’m sure she can think up some … alternative ideas. It’s odd to think of you and Luna together. I don’t mean to criticize or judge but I never thought that you had much in common with her.” She hoped Harry wouldn’t take what she said the wrong way. It was truly how she felt; Harry and Luna as a couple seemed out of place to her.
Speaking of Ron made Hermione sigh a little. “Ron and I are okay I suppose. I know he wanted me to move with him but I just can’t. It’s a commitment that I don’t want to make right now. And I had been hoping to get a place of my own, you know, by myself.” Feeling embarrassed for telling Harry that she wanted to move out eventually and without Ron, Hermione moved deeper into the kitchen so as to hide her blush.
He nodded pondering a bit. "Well, honestly it's not that I don't have enough money to last me a good long time without a job, but... well, I reckon I'll be bored if I'm not working. Plus, I don't think I should not be working. It's just not right for a young man to not be working, is it? And... well, Luna..." he couldn't help but smile sheepishly again. "I think that she and I have a lot in common. We get on fantastically, actually. It's interesting, I've never thought we had much in common either." he chuckled. "But it seems like she just... gets me, and I reckon I get her too."
