"I remember you telling me stories about what that beard would do, and not being able to sleep that night because of it," Regulus responded, his tone a bit dry, but there was still a wide, amused grin spread across his face. "And Mum caught me the one time when I was sneaking across to your room because I kept having nightmares."
There had been many nights of sneaking into Sirius' room though, when he couldn't sleep and was scared. Before his brother had left for Hogwarts, he had spent maybe as many nights in Sirius' room as his own. Even after Sirius had left, for the first few months, Regulus had tried curling up in the sheets that didn't quite smell like his brother anymore, but it wasn't quite the same without the other's presence. And he had never admitted that to Sirius.
"Oh, I don't know," Regulus responded to the second, heavier question, a bit of his smile falling off of his face as he almost sighed. "It's all very complicated. Maybe a little too dangerous."
