"Zabini?" she asked, almost incredulously. "Draco, no Zabini has ever had half the cares this family has had. Let him plan parties all he wants. You do not have to keep up with him. What's more important is keeping this situation in hand."
They could juggle social niceties when their world was stable: right now, damage control ought to be Draco's first priority. Lucius couldn't go making plans for his own new life: he was a freak of magic, an abnormality, and he and Regulus had to be contained. Draco had to see that.
"We can't plan anything like that with these two lingering about," she said. "It's far too risky." And what was more: parties didn't build social standing. Narcissa had hosted her fair share of social functions, and enjoyed every one, but they would have been meaningless without Lucius' hours spent cementing relationships and making himself useful at the Ministry.
