What could go wrong?
Ok...so I drive all the way to Florida to see my best friend in the world graduate. All of the family is there to see her walk on her big day. She gets dressed & as always, she's stunning. We go to the college & we wait. We're all sitting around, waiting for the graduation to begin. Suddenly, as guests are still arriving & getting to their seats, we see something run by us. We all kind of look at each other with a confused look. Was that? I'll be damned, yes it was! It was my best friend. What the hell has happened?! I tell everyone to just stay put & I'll find out what is going on.
Now, my best friend doesn't normally get so emotional. She was crying. Oh my God! You should have seen her face! Makeup all running down her face. Eyeliner & mascara running. She looked like she belonged at a Halloween party! She was crying so damn much that I could barely make out what the hell she was saying. Oh my God, she's not graduating! These people don't tell her this until she's in line to graduate! What the hell kind of shit is that?! And not only that...because she's not graduating & she's still considered a student, she now doesn't have a job. Oh my...she's a mess. I try to calm her down. I'm not doing a good job of it though. I'm telling her that things happen for a reason (hell, at this point, I don't even believe that).
Her mom finally comes over & asks what happened. We tell her. Mom is not pleased. Nor does she take this in a good way. Mom tells her that she is tired of all the crap & that she must move out since she's not graduating. Mom storms off to take her seat for when the graduation starts.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel. As she's crying & I'm trying to be consoling, her knight in shining armour appears. Yeah, who actually believes in those now a days?! However, had I not seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. There he stood. He looked so handsome. He was in a business suit. He walked up to her, wiped the tears & running make up away from her eyes, & told her that it is all going to be okay. He looked at me as he put his arms around her & said that they have a nice house in Jacksonville. He said she doesn't ever have to work. My best friend just looked at him in disbelief. She's very skeptical. Not that I blame her, but he does something unexpected. He hands me a bank book. I look at it & there is a very large number in that bank account. Now I don't believe him. He gives me the phone number to call & put in his social security number to verify it. Oh my God! It's verified. He tells us about a man who truly believed in him & his ideas & invested in him. That investment turned over 10 fold. He's making very good money & he is the proud owner of several stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, & South Carolina. He looks at me & says that he knows that him & I have had our differences, but that he truly loves my best friend & wants to be with her & make her as happy as he possibly can. I admit, I'm reluctant to believe him. My reluctance is only for a few moments because I see the look on her face. I see the love in her eyes. All doubt is erased from my mind when I see the way they look at each other. I extend my hand to him. He politely shakes my hand.
Although she didn't graduate this day...everything happens for a reason. She got her knight in shining armour. She briefly moved to Athens, Georgia where she graduated with a nursing degree. Her knight paid for her tuition & books & even a place to stay. Oh, she didn't marry him, but who needs a piece of paper to say that you love each other anyway. She officially became a Georgia Bulldog alumni & then moved back to Jacksonville. She is a successful nurse at one of the biggest hospitals in Jacksonville, Florida. She and her mom have reconciled, but they are better not living under the same roof.
And her and I? Well, we're still the best of friends & I have even come to like her knight in shining armour. He's really good to her. He loves her. So, I usually go to Jacksonville every other month just to hang out with them. And his stores are doing really, really well.
