He didn't need to get a job, he knew that quite well, but he felt as though he needed to soak up the local culture the last month before school started, in the end of august. He wouldn't mind playing piano in all of his spare time, but he really wanted to try and pay rent, and he was trying to make it a goal not to speed through his inheritance before he could actually do something practical with it. So while he went exploring with AJ and her mother to the grocery store, Russell went to the nearby starbucks for Coffee and picked up an application.
The manager was in and spoke with him on the spot, and do to his accent, and how he carried himself, asked him to come in on Saturday for training/a dry run, to see how well he would do, and if they could hire him. He wasn't technically an employee as of yet, but he told AJ, how hard could it be to serve coffee? Though he was freaking out beneath the surface of things. He was worrying about everything he could possibly worry about.
He showed up in khakis and a black polo, and as soon as he'd got there they shoved a green apron his way, and asked him if he knew how to start a pot of Coffee. He was rushed into the whirlwind of Saturday morning coffee, and by the time it hit noon, had spilled coffee and whipped creme and god knows what else on his apron.
He'd learned about five different drinks, but was having trouble differentiating at times and he kept asking the other girl who was training him. He nerves were going crazy, and though it had only been two hours, it felt like ten, and he was just trying to keep up with the orders, glad most of them were just the easy Caramel Machiottos and frappuchinnos, else he would have gone mad by now.
