That was definitely a voice he was not expecting to hear in his doorway. At first, he thought he was imagining things. Then, he slowly turned a bit to face where the voice came from. His eyes widened and it took a second before his surprised smile followed.
He wanted to get up and immediately go to her, but he didn't want to seem too overly excited. She was probably still getting used to the fact that he was being so different. Better to try to remain calm. At least to seem so.
Instead of getting up, he simply scratched the back of his neck modestly, still smiling. "Well, other things usually occupy me," he answered. Slowly, he slipped up off of the piano bench and came toward her. "You came back. I thought you had to think about it?"
His voice and actions may have been calm, but he couldn't stop his eyes from saying 'hug me'.
