Jesse had gotten home yesterday. To drag his girlfriend to urgent care. But she had protested and actually to threaten to castrate him. Which didn't sound like a very pleasant thing to happen. So he managed to get a compromise in on her. They'd go in this morning, and after she proved him right that she wasn't sick. He'd let it go, and lay with her the rest of the day holding her and cuddling.
So here they were. Sitting in a cold examining room where they had been for about an two hours. And frankly. They both The doctor had 'Hmmm'd, and haaa'd' over what could be wrong. had a nurse draw some blood. So now they were sitting...him sitting next to her, arm around her on the examining table.
"Okay...so you were right. This fucking sucks."
The only reason Jade had made the compromise was because she'd wanted to stop arguing, wanted to just lay down on the couch and watch television since she couldn't do anything else. The last thing she felt like doing while sick was yell at her boyfriend. However after two hours of waiting she was beginning to think a little more yelling would have been better than this. "I told you but you wouldn't listen, the doctor can't even find anything wrong with me." Two hours of absolutely nothing to her meant that there was nothing wrong. "We should just leave." Yes, Jade was grumpy. Wouldn't you be?
Jesse shook his head. He didn't want any kind of I told you so's. He sighed looking at her. "Why would they take blood work if he didn't think something was wrong." He sighed again. "But if you want to leave. We can go." As he got up to let the doctor know they were leaving. He entered. He stared blankly at the doctor confused.
Then doctor started talking. "Sir, you might want to sit back down again." So Jesse listened and sat. The doctor continued. "When you first came in here I thought it was something other than the flu. But I had to make sure." He paused. "Jade, you're pregnant."
And Jesse's face lost color and his look became blank. All he could say was. "What...?"
She was getting off the table very slowly when the doctor came back in, her sitting back down with an annoyed look on her face....a look that turned into pure shock when the doctor made his little announcement. The next words that came out of her mouth was all in Spanish, taking about how it just wasn't possible, purely rambling which was normal for Jesse's ears from her. "Thats right. About three weeks along from what we can gather. Jade felt like she was going to faint, her hand moving to rest on her abdomen as she process the information. "I'm on birth control though..."
Jesse just still stared. Listening and nodding at the doctor. And he gave a parting words. ANy questions kind of bullshit. You know the number. More pointless bullshit. Jesse was still in shock.
"We're...having a baby..." He uttered softly. "This is...so surreal..." He looked at her hand over her abdomen. His hand reaching out and took her hand. He smiled looking up into her eyes. "We'll be okay." He paused. "But you were right. You're not sick." He leaned forward putting a soft kiss upon her lips.
When the doctor left she kept staring forward, barely turning to look him when he spoke about what they'd just found out. "I...I.." Jade was having a little mini freak out in her head, but she just nodded, until he said that they were going to be okay, her head shaking as her eyes grew wide. "I don't know how to be a mom." It wasn't that she wasn't thrilled to be pregnant, it was just with it being such a shock to her system all the fears were running rampant. Plus her hormones were out of whack.
Jesse simply pulled her close. Hugging her. His own shock hadn't subsided. But his freak out could wait till she was calm. His head was in a whirl wind as she started talking. "Baby..." He started as he made her look into his eyes. "You don't need to know. You'd be a great mom..." He kissed her. "Now me on the other hand. I have no idea what to do..." He sighed softly as he kissed her forehead. Then her lips.
"You and I. Will be just fine..."
Her hands hadn't left resting over her stomach, unable to believe that just beneath them a baby was growing inside of her. Looking up at him she couldn't speak, too shocked to really be able to string a sentence together, "We can't both.." She shook her head, looking up at him as he kissed her lips, stopping her from talking. "I'm not worried about is."
He looked down to her. "Then we will be okay. Right?" Jesse still wasn't sure about himself. But he did know, that she'd be a great mother. He fished for another kiss. And smiled at her. He didn't ask her though, if she even wanted to keep it.
"Do...you want to keep it...?" He bit his lip softly.
Finally a small smile came to her face at his question, "Of course I want to keep it, why would you?..Unless...do you want to keep it?" Even if Jade didn't want the child she was carrying she wouldn't have done anything about it sans giving it up for adoption. The baby was part of them, she couldn't give that up.
"No. I want it. I want it with you. I want to keep it. And raise it with you." He smiled down at her. It's part of both of them. And he didn't want to miss a part of that. He kissed her. Then smiled shyly at her. His eyes lighting up some.
"We're having a baby...
At first when he'd said no she'd been a little worried, but then he'd added on to it, letting her breathe again. "Yeah..." She nodded her head, leaning forward to press her head against his chest she sighed a bit, "Told you I wasn't sick. Not really." Though her stomach was feeling queasy at the moment.
"Yes, baby. You're right. You are not sick." He laughed. "Want to pick something up on the way home?" Oh. One thing he wasn't thinking of, were the cravings that were to come. That'd be a nightmare. He prayed she wasn't anything like Marissa was. Which was crazy.
Wrapping her arms around him she shrugged her shoulders, "Right now all I'm thinking about is keeping down the breakfast you made me." When she'd tried to prove to him that she wasn't sick but wound up laying on the couch trying to keep the food down. So far it'd been doing good but now, with the shock added into the mix, she wasn't so sure anymore.
"Then. Lets just go home." He smiled gripping her hand in his. Leading out of the hospital. Honestly. He was excited. A child. With her. It was exciting. Though, he was still nervous. He didn't know how he should be a father. He was just an emotional wreck.
Following him slowly out of the hospital and into the car Jade curled up in the seat, her attention on Jesse and what he was thinking though she wasn't saying anything outloud. How could he seem so calm when something so huge had just happened to the both of them.
Jesse was far from calm. His mind was in a whirl wind. He couldn't think straight even if he tried. And that came very obvious when he almost backed into another car waiting for him to pull out of his spot. He barely caught it. He blinked and looked to Jade.
"Er...oops..."
When he nearly got into an accident Jade could tell something wasn't quite
right. Jesse didn't get into accidents. "Jesse?" reaching over she took one of his hands, lacing their fingers together, "you want me to drive?"
He nodded silently, then spoke. "Yeah, that might be a good idea." He slowly got out and switched seats with her. Once in the passenger seat he let out a sigh. He didn't just get into accidents. He let out a soft sigh.
Starting the car up and pulling out of the parking stall without any incident Jade started the drive home, chewing on her bottom lip as she looked at him through the corner of her eyes. "I love you." She said softly, hoping that might make him feel a little better. Her grandfather use to say the only thing you needed to raise a child was love, and they had that. They had plenty of that. Right?
Jesse had glanced over at Jade. He smiled at her happily. "I love you too, baby." He looked forward. It was so real. It was a way weird idea. Him being a father. He hoped that he'd be a good father. "I want us to keep it." He looked to her. "I want us to keep it. I want us to become a family with this baby..." He said hopeful. And happy.
Glancing over at him, trying to keep her eyes on the road and focus on keeping the contents of her stomach down she offered him a smile, "Of course we are," She said softly, licking her lips to stop them from being dry, the nerves still a big factor with her at the moment. "We're going to keep it and be a family. And not screw it up." Hopefully.
"We wont baby." He reached over and squeezed her thigh gently. Jesse was happy she wanted it. He was more than happy. He loved her, and he now loved for the baby growing inside her was increasing. Then he looked away, then back to her. "So, boy or girl?" He asked grin wide.
Swallowing hard she looked over at him and his new question, a confused look on her face before she realized that he was asking what she wanted and not what it was, her brain not exactly in gear, "Oh..uh..." Shrugging her shoulders she thought a minute, "I don't really know, I've never given it any thought." Jade honestly hadn't seen herself in the parenting capacity until today, "You?" Her stomach was churning, this wasn't a good sign.
Jesse honestly shrugged. "I'm not sure. Never really thought about it until now." He paused thinking about it. It'd be nice for it to be a boy. He'd be able to do all those...Man things with him. Though if it was a little girl, he'd get that simple pleasure of scaring her boyfriends. It was all weird still. He glanced at her. She seemed slightly distracted. "Are you going to be okay?"
A little girl would be nice, she'd be able to do all the mother daughter things her mother never even tried with her, dress her up and teach her things. With a little boy she could spoil him and watch his dad do all of those father son things. "Uh..." Thinking about it she shook her head, "No, I'm not.." Quickly pulling the car over she unbuckled her seat belt, climbing over Jesse and opening his door to get out of the vehicle, barely making it to the grassy area on the other side of the sidewalk before getting sick again.
Once they were pulled over, and Jesse knew what was happening. Once they were stopped, he unlocked the door and helped her out the passenger door. She was throwing up on the side of the road. He slowly climb out and walked to her holding her hair back. Once she is finished, he'd offered her a bottle of water. Warm, but from the car. "You okay?" Once she rinsed her mouth he lead her to the passenger seat. Then himself to the drivers seat, again. And, back into traffic they were. They were almost home.
"Oh yeah, I'm just great." She climbed into the car and curled up as best she could in the passenger seat, closing her eyes to try and get control of her stomach. "I hate being sick. So much." Taking the warm bottle of water back again she took a drink, trying to get the taste out of her mouth, normally she'd at least take a piece of her cinnamon gum, but cinnamon seemed to make things worse.
Jesse took the turns. And roads. And they were soon in their driveway, next to her car. He got out. Going to her door pulling it open. He bent down planting a kiss on her lips. Then he scooped her up and carefully brought her out of the car. He carried up to the door. Arm reaches out under her and unlocks the door as he entered with her. Once in side he kicked the door shut.
Soon she was being layed in the bed.
No words were said as they continued to drive along, nor were any spoken as he lifted her out of the car and carried her into the house. Jade did however press a soft kiss to his neck before hugging onto him as he walked them through the house and up to the bedroom, her grabbing his hand to gently tug him down into the bed with her. "Stay here?" Right now she just needed to be held, needed to be comforted and Jesse was the onyly person who could give her that.
