The death of Adelle's mother had definitely changed her in a way she hadn't quite experienced until now. The funeral..the time spent with her family putting on a good face for all of the friends that came to share their condolences..it was all a final straw with her. She left her family's home that Sunday night, without telling anyone goodbye. After all, they didn't deserve one. She knew..when she got into her car, that that was the last time she'd willingly set foot into or out of that house. So she bid it goodbye with a bittersweet aftertaste, but not even one glance in the rearview mirror.
Monday..an often dreaded word, wasn't for once. Adelle was looking forward to going to see Dominic..because well..why wouldn't she be? He'd admitted he wanted to be friends..she admitted the same. Things were supposed to progress from there, weren't they? It was a fair day..small talk and a few smiles exchanged. It was almost scary just how comfortable being his "friend" was for her. It felt like it had always been that way and always would be.
Somehow over time, Dominic had begun to retract himself from their encounters. She was definitely putting more into it than he was, and that confused and worried Adelle. She knew she could be paranoid sometimes, but this couldn't have merely been her overactive imagination. There was really something going on with him. It bugged her to no end, that he was already keeping something from her. Ade had grown quite tired of trying to ignore it and it had started to hurt her feelings and anger her, even. What had she done? He was the one who initiated things! Now what was a girl to do to fix this..or at least figure out what had gone so wrong?
She hadn't reached the edge until he was drunk and high around her. How rude can one get? Was it that horrible to be in her presence?! Why couldn't he just tell her that it was all a big mistake?! That caring for her..and inviting her in was a slip up and he wanted to take it back? Instead he so rudely drowned her out with alcohol and narcotics. Adelle wasn't quite sure why it hurt her JUST as much as it did, but it was an extreme amount. She was worrying too much over it and it needed to end.
It was at least two weeks since her mother had died, and she had indulged in her fair share of alcohol, but it wasn't EVER in his presense. She had forgotten once a friendship was established, that he had a right to be under any influence he felt like being under, whether she was around or not. He was who she worked for whether or not it really held many borders before this time. Here she was, standing at the front door of his home..being turned away by the maid. This wasn't happening. He was going to hurt her too, wasn't he? She couldn't sit idly by and let him get away..he was something she wanted more than anything and she would fight for him..with him even.
"I'll only be a minute..I swear.." She said in a faux sweet tone, to the maid. "Thank you.." She mumbled and started up the stairs. The maid had informed Adelle that he was sleeping in his office, or at least that's what she had been informed. Hell bent on getting to the bottom of whatever he was up to, she opened the door to his office and closed it behind her, letting it slam ever so slightly. She glanced around for the couch and the sleeping body that might not be sleeping in the next moment or two. She stared at him a moment. What gives him the right to be so..beautiful? She shrugged to herself and with heels clanking away, she walked over to the desk and started pretending to hunt through the drawers, opening and closing them noisily. It was her turn to be rude. If he fired her, oh well..she wasn't going to take the way he had been treating her.
