If you asked Gavin, he couldn't tell you why he didn't stay away from Anna. All signs pointed to going that direction. He liked her, but she had fallen in love with someone else. That was okay. He hadn't hung around the girl long enough to get too involved, so it was no sweat off his back. But what did worry him was being simply a rebound. What comforted that part though? Was the fact that he didn't think her to be that way. He didn't think she'd move on until she thought she was good and ready. He was just going to be extra wary. But hey, they were friends, right? And he was fond of Ryder, which, in all honesty, would have shocked people who knew Gavin, should they observe it. Not that Gavin wasn't a nice guy, but he had a persona that said otherwise.
But he also couldn't bear to see Anna hurt like that. She was left in a pretty bad way, and that poor kid... It had to be hard, and there was no way in this world that Gavin wasn't going to try and put a smile on her face.
On the 22nd, he had accompanied Anna and Ryder to the beach, and although he was slightly more reserved at first, he opened up after a while, especially when it came to Ryder. You couldn't really be quiet around that kid. He was a curious little fellow. When he dropped off the two blondes though, Ryder had left his sand pail and shovel, and Gavin didn't notice it until today. He had been driving to work, hit the brakes to avoid a dog in the road, and the pail rattled around in the backseat. So he figured after work he'd bring it back by.
Still a little dirty from being under cars all day, he parked his car out front of their place and walked up the sidewalk. He pushed the little round, white button beside the door, listening to the sound of the doorbell ring, followed by Prince's barking.
