Hannah was far from being happy that he had taken Sam, instead. She was well aware that many people didn't care much for her, and blamed her for her and Matt's break-up, as if they thought she could prevent her family from moving when she was so young. It's not logical at all, and her conclusion was that they were just being ignorant. She could feel it each time one of the kids from back home even looked at her.
Wasn't it only natural for her to be jealous about this, though? Her younger cousin had agreed when she had talked to her about it the other day, so she couldn't have been completely insane for feeling hurt, right? Of course not. She had thought about him every second of every day, as it was impossible to get him off of her mind. She was so very much in love with him, but that didn't mean she couldn't be upset with him, right now.
When Joseph had arrived, Hannah had been in the yard with two of her younger cousins. They were trying to tie a rope around a thick tree branch to set up a tire swing, with the tire resting against the base of the tree. She was kneeling over, wearing a pair of cutoff jean shorts, frayed at the bottoms, and a plaid shirt that was knotted in the front, with a white spaghetti strap beneath. Every time she came back to Georgia, she felt the need to look the part. Plus, it made her grandparents happy.
Hearing the footsteps, she looked up, and froze when she saw Joseph. "Hey, guys.. why don't you go make some lemonade with Pap? I'm sure he'd love the company," she smiled, turning back towards them. They abandoned the rope, though they hadn't been helping much, and ran off and into the cool house. Hannah looked back towards Joseph, and stood up erect, smoothing her hands over her shorts as she just stood there. "Well, welcome home."
