Who: Emma Daly Ratcliff (Liza) and Sean Ratcliff (Blind Mouse) What: Emma got kicked out and called Sean. Where: Emma's house. When: Monday, May 19, 2008 - far too early in the morning (10am) Rating: PG Status: Complete Log Note: Backdated because I'm an idiot and forgot to post it.
Twenty minutes had passed since Emma had gone downstairs to eat breakfast and she was still in complete and utter shock. Her dad had kicked her out. She was no longer allowed to live at home. Even now, she was finding it difficult to wrap her brain around it.
Maybe it had been naive to think that her life wouldn't change after getting married but that was exactly what she had been expecting. She had thought that she would go home for the summer like she always did. Sure, things were bound to change when she and Sean had an official wedding but... right now, excluding the ring on her finger, she hardly felt married at all.
As she sat in her room looking around at her things, her eyes filled with tears. How could he do this to her? How could a father just... turn his back on his daughter? Through her entire life, she'd only spent a handful of nights away from her twin and suddenly she was just supposed to just live without her? How was that fair? It made sense that she should live with her husband but... it wasn't fair! She didn't want to leave Ellie.
Before she could succumb to the sobs that were building in her chest, she pulled out her phone and dialed Sean's number. She needed to talk. More importantly, she needed a place to live. If her parents were no longer willing to provide that for her, who else was she supposed to call?
Sean had a long long night at the studio with the band. His brain was dead. His voice hurt. And he wanted to get some sleep before he had to see his wife. He kinda wanted her to live with him. But he figured that they would travel that point after their real wedding.
So at this point when he heard the tunes of the ringtone he gave Emma. He groaned. Even though he loved her. But did she know what god forsaken time it was. He stirred some and grabbed the phone from under the covers as he flipped the phone open sticking it to his ear. With a light gruff and groan he rolled and moaned roughly. With a half rough voice he spoke.
"Good morning baby. How are we liking being home again?"
Emma wasn't usually a morning person but, stupidly enough, she'd gotten up early because she'd been looking forward to having breakfast with her family. While she loved Boston, she missed her parents and she was always happy to spend time with them when she was home... even if it meant getting up at an ungodly hour. Really, though, If she'd known things were going to go this route, she would've just stayed in bed.
When Sean answered the phone, she winced. It was obvious she'd woken him and she instantly felt awful for it. "I'm sorry for waking you, baby," she returned, being sure to keep her voice soft as she spoke. "I just..." Tears began to drip down her cheeks at his question and she had to sit there a moment before she could speak. "Well... if you want honesty, I'm not liking it at all."
Sean knew instantly something was wrong. Over the time. He liked to think he knew her pretty well. And he sure to god hoped so seeing that he was now married to her. So, needless to say he was now one hundred and fifty percent awake now. Sitting up and looking around for his pants. He was already on his way out the door before she would have too. He didn't know what was wrong, but he knew something was. "What's wrong? What happened." He pushed. The rockstar didn't even take the time to attempt to put anything real decent on. Just the pants from before, and it was him now bouncing while holding the phone to his ear on his shoulder.
Emma would've been the first to admit that Sean knew her better than almost anyone else. He was one of the few people she felt completely comfortable around. She'd never felt the need to hide who she was... he'd just always accepted her.
While she'd been trying to hide exactly how upset she was, she thought nothing of it when he saw right through that act.
"Daddy kicked me out," she answered, her voice cracking with emotion. "He says.. he says that I can't live at home any more... that if I want to be married, I should be living with my husband."
Saying it out loud caused more tears to fall down her cheeks and she fell silent, again as she tried to regain control of her emotions. "I can't... I've never... I need a place to live," she finally admitted softly.
"Baby. Baby. Calm down. I'll be there in twenty minutes. I kind of wanted you to move in anyways. I was just nervous to ask you." Admited as he went flying through his closet for a shirt. Once in hand he was walking through his house towards the garage. "I just need you to figure out everything you want to bring with. And we'll figure out the details. Okay." He knew it. And the fact that Emma was big into her family and the fact that her father kicked her out. Was bad. He knew there was a reason he always skipped breakfast at his house. He sighed softly as he was finally relizing that he was still dead tired. He decided that the Honda would be a better choice today to drive. Though he wasn't off the phone yet. "And don't worry. I'd never leave you out on the streets. You're my wife after all. I love you." He paused. "And your sister is welcome over any time you want her to come over." Which was almost dangerous to say. But Emma needed to know it'd be okay.
Emma was trying her best to stay calm but there was something about saying it aloud that broke her heart. Two eggs sunny side up, toast, bacon and... an eviction notice. That was some hellacious news to deliver at the breakfast table.
"Alright," she murmured softly. "I'll... I'll be waiting for you."
Twenty minutes was more than enough time for her to gather her things. Most of her clothes were already packed from being in Boston for the year. That left very few things in the room she and Ellie had shared their entire life... a few trinkets, pictures, posters... she'd never take the things she'd always shared with her twin and that didn't leave much else.
"I love you, too," she murmured softly.
The twenty minutes were quick to Sean due to his speeding. He was there and in the drive way. If there was anything big that needed to be moved. He'd get movers. But he'd not worry about it. He left the car running and flew up to the front door instantly ringing the door bell. THen again. Then again. Knowing his luck her father would answer and see him in all his non-glory. Beat up jeans that are two days old. A random t-shirt. His hair a mess. And no eye-liner. Needless to say, it was obvious that he just flew out of bed.
Sean's twenty minutes were a little quicker than she'd expected but, as stated, Emma had very few things that needed packing. Posters... pictures... random trinkets and bobbles had all been shoved hastily into her suitcase as she'd packed the few clothes she kept at her parents. Everything else was left for her twin.
Sean might have been worried about her father answering the door but his timing had been perfect. Emma had just carried her last suit case down the stairs and sat it in the entrance way when the bell sounded.
The smile that greeted him when she pulled open the door wasn't her usual, bright, happy grin. Instead it was a tear stained, weak one.
"So, this is it," she told him, motioning to two suitcases and a duffle bag. She'd said her goodbyes to her sister and, right now, she didn't care to see the rest of her family. Rather than explaining all of this to Sean, she pulled the duffle bag across her body and began to tug the smaller of the two suitcases out of the door. To hell with everything else... she was just ready to get out of there.
