"You don't need to thank me," he breathed softly, barely shaking his head as he shifted a bit closer to her. His free hand moved over her cheek and he smiled at her, still holding her gaze with his.
"I'm just glad I could do something, baby. I'm glad I could make tonight good for you."
It was true. For weeks, Charlie had felt utterly helpless. He'd seen how devastated she was and he hadn't been able to fix it. That had just about killed him, seeing her like that. Tonight, she was so much more like herself and that made him feel so much better.
His thumb moved over her cheek as his gaze remained locked with hers and even though he'd told himself he was with her as a friend tonight, he couldn't quite help himself. Without another word, he leaned in and lightly brushed his lips over hers.
