Every reason she had was selfish. Tyler kept telling himself that, kept reminding himself that he'd be stupid to let her back in, to give her another chance to hurt him. Her life was hell? A part of him felt vindictive and mean enough to think it was a suitable penance for the way she'd hurt him. Maybe that made him an ass, but it was the truth.
And maybe that was the real reason none of her words were making a difference here. Tyler was still too hurt and angry to consider forgiveness or giving her another shot or any of that. He definitely couldn't give her a chance just because she was going through hell. He was focusing on himself, for once - his life, his feelings, his future.
He couldn't be a complete ass about it, though, and he had to admit that he didn't like the idea of her walking home alone at night. It wasn't a bad neighborhood, but still.
"No," he shook his head as he moved to catch up. "I mean, I can drive you home. It's on my way, anyway."
