Matt may have barely noticed, but Lyla heard that familiar voice calling her name and her stomach gave a lurch as she pulled away from Matt. She didn't want to look, to confirm it, but she knew it. She was busted.
Oh, God. "Adam?" she called right back. She bit her lip and tried to fight the panic that was building inside of her at the realization that she'd been caught in the middle of something she could definitely not talk her way out of. The guilt was written all over her face, anyway, even if a plausible situation could have been offered.
"What are you... I didn't know you were coming by tonight.."
Obviously. She wouldn't have gotten so careless if she'd known. She felt completely stupid for it once the words were out, but she really didn't know what else to say.
