Who: Mikaela Baxter and Brendan Harris [Star Light, Star Bright and JC Jiminy Cricket] What: Her puppy, Mr. Bojangles, is sick, so it's BFF Brendan to the rescue Where: Their different places, then the vet When: Monday, March 31st. 3 pm. Rating: PG? Status: Incomplete thread/beginning as a log
Mikaela was just doing what she could be found doing on any normal day. She was relaxing outside on the trampoline she'd bought last month, cuddled up in blankets. She'd actually just woken up, having fallen asleep out there. She actually tended to do that a lot. She didn't mind it, and since she didn't, it was beginning to turn into a habit. Her little puppy, Mr. Bojangles, had been running around, sniffing of things, being a curious little puppy, ever since she woke up.
The dog's collar had been jingling underneath her, beside her, all around as he explored, but suddenly, it stopped jingling. She figured it was just that he found something to occupy his attention, but after a while, the silence was a little odd. "Bo?" She called out his nickname, seeing if he'd come to her. No jingling. He sat up and pushed the blankets off of her, trying to see where the little dog was. "Where are you, Bo?" She said softly to herself. She looked to the fence, in the corner, and saw the dog just kinda laying there. She whistled to him, but no response. She was starting to panic already, and she wasn't even close to the dog. She crawled to the edge of the trampoline and hopped off, rushing towards the dog. It sounded like it was having a hard time breathing. She was really freaking out now. "Bo. Bo? Bo!" She was frantically trying to get him to respond to her, move, do something. She picked him up and brought him to the trampoline, wrapping him in a blanket, and still trying to get him to do something.
Brendan pulled away from the kiss he was currently sharing with his Nancy, a funny look coming over his face as he looked around the room. Something felt...wrong. Glancing back at the girl when she asked what was wrong he shrugged his shoulders, telling her that he wasn't sure and then shaking it off, going back in to kiss her. Seconds later he got the feeling again, stronger this time, and Mikaela popped into his head. Getting up off the couch he went over to his jacket and pulled out his cell phone, scrolling through and finding his friends number as he walked out onto Nancy's balcony and pressed the little green send button. Holding the phone to his ear he listened to it ring until her voicemail came on and then hung up, trying again as he walked back inside and gathered his jacket up, muttering a quick apology to his girl as he left her apartment. Kay didn't ever ignore her phone, at least she insisted that she didn't so that combined with the feeling that she needed him won over everything else. Finally hearing her voice on the other end of the line he let out a little sigh, "What's wrong Kay?" As he asked her the question he was digging out the key to unlock his car and getting inside, starting it up as soon as he was able too.
Mikaela's brain was everywhere at the moment, trying to figure out what the hell she should do with the poor dog. She didn't know what she would do without the little guy. He was like a child to her, like most pets were to their owners. She wasn't really functioning on all cylinders, so she didn't get to the phone until the second go round. "Brendan! It's Bo! I don't know what's wrong with him, but he's acting really funny! He's not moving and he's making this weird sound and..." Oh yeah, Mikaela was freaking out. Maybe a little more than the average person. She was know to be overemotional, that was for sure. "I don't know what to do!" She didn't think about the fact that he knew she was upset without even saying anything, because that was the way he worked. Like her with wishes.
Nodding his head as he drove towards her place he waited for her to stop talking before opening his mouth. "You're going to meet me in the front of your house. In about five minutes with the way I'm driving. Then we'll take Bo to the vet so that they can figure out whats wrong." Brendan always had the ability to stay calm under pressure, it was part of who he was, occasionally he would lose it but it was a rarity. "Bo is gonna be fine. You're not truly a parent," He used the term loosely in this instance, "Until your kid scares you into a heart attack. Think of it as your oreintation."
Brendan always had a way of calming her down. Mikaela was always overdramatic and oversensitive, and he evened her out in that instance. She wasn't completely calm all of a sudden, of course, but she was starting to feel a little relieved that someone knew what to do. Taking the dog to the vet would have been the obvious solution, sure, but she had been freaking out a little too much. "Orientation. Alright." She tried to take a little bit deeper breaths to get herself to calm down. "Okay. Just hurry." She wouldn't know what she would do with herself if he hurried too much and had a wreck, but she wanted him here. She knew that would make things better somehow. And she needed to see what was wrong with the dog. "Thank you." She said quickly into the phone before hanging up and scooping the dog into her arms. She went through her house, grabbed her purse, and went outside to wait for his car to show itself on her street, the little dog huddled against her.
And hurry he did, at least as much as he could without doing anything too illegal. Pulling up in front of her house he leaned over across the passenger seat and opened the door, "Come on Kay." Brendan wasn't going to get out of the car because it would waste time and he knew that Mikaela would freak if it took more time then needed to get the dog to the animal hospital. He could see the dog all bundled up in a blanket and she was cradling it in her arms, it also seemed like she might be shaking which was never a good sign.
It was obvious he knew her all too well. because she might have freaked out a little bit more if he paused much. Constant movement, that's what needed to be happening here, with Mr. Bojangles acting this way. And tremble a little, she was. If she got too worked up, that's what tended to happen. Once they started moving, she was thanking him profusely. "You weren't doing anything important, were you? I just... I didn't know what to do."
He shook his head, "Don't worry about it, I'll make it up to Nancy later." The girl knew about how he needed to help, that he couldn't just sit idly by when something was wrong so this wasn't anything new. "Thats what you have me for. To be your brain when yours stops working." Finding himself at a stoplight he looked over at the dog and reached one hand out to pet over his head, "The vet will know what to do. I promise."
Nancy. She didn't know why, but she didn't really care for Nancy. She sure as hell wasn't going to tell Brendan that. Not in a million years, because she knew they had a connection, and she wasn't going to say anything that would make him turn against her. And no, ever since high school, when they became best friends, they both dated people. Him more so than her, simply because he was the more compassionate, outgoing one.... and you had to add that he was attractive. Tons of Kaela's friends thought so, and told her so, time and time again. So, naturally, Mikaela didn't feel all too bad if that was who she took him away from. At least it wasn't work or... something with his brothers. But what he said after that gave her a smile, and that was saying tons. "My brain works! It just... fails me sometimes." She managed to slightly tease. The girl was incredibly intelligent, but all intelligence went out the damn window if she got too worked up. She watched him pet the dog, and happened to look up as the light turned green, and he was still looking at the dog. "It's green." She said calmly, not trying to be bossy, but she really wanted to get there. She turned her attention back towards the dog, trying to hold him so maybe the small noises he was making didn't sound as bad. Maybe he was breathing a little better at this angle. ....Or maybe this one. Maaaaaybe she wasn't really helping at all, and just thought she was.
"I'm going I'm going." He had waited there about point five seconds longer than needed and he was already getting yelled at. "And I hate to say it but since high school your intelligance has gone downhill." Brendan was trying to keep her mind off of whatever was probably running through herh ead, knowing that it couldn't be good. Within five minutes he was in front an animal hospital, turning off the car and running around to her side to help her get out of the car and whatnot. Once inside he talked to the nurse and told them about how the puppy wasn't breathing very well and he hadn't been moving at all. Immediately they took the dog from her and replaced him with a clip board, yes, they have animal paperwork too. "Come on, lets go sit down."
Mikaela couldn't help but be a little more chipper at that as well. He was definitely helping her out by keeping her mind off of it. "It has not! I have no clue what you're talking about." She was thankful he talked to the nurse, and not her, because she probably wouldn't have been able to form a complete thought. She was a little wary about giving up her dog to them though. She hesitated, but handed him over. She wanted to be with him while they checked him out, but it was for the best. She wouldn't be able to handle it. She did what she was told, and sat down with him, starting to do the paperwork. Without even thinking about it, her shoulder leaned against his side, and her head rested lightly on his shoulder as she wrote the proper info down.
