Joseph had always been rather patient when his sisters were asking him questions. Especially Claudia. She'd always been the talkative one... the one asking him a million and two things as he moved around the farm doing his chores. This was no different. Except he couldn't come up with the answers as easily as he had when her questions consisted of random math equations that she didn't even know the answer to. 'What's 1 plus 1? What's 2 plus 2? What's 4 plus 4? What's 8 plus 8? What's 16 plus 16?'
"I don't know, Claudia," he answered after a moment, his brow furrowed in thought. "I guess I always thought that Sam and I would be together forever, too."
He really didn't know how to answer her question so he didn't even bother trying. "I guess you know about as much as I do," he returned. "Together we could write an entire sentence on the subject."
Smiling, then, he pulled a bite of ice cream from his bowl and shoved it into his mouth. His thoughts were far from pleasant, though. What had happened with him and Sam?
