"It's fine, Matty," she assured him. She couldn't lie and pretend she hadn't though what she'd thought, but she didn't want to come out and say it, either. The important thing, anyway, was that she'd been just as wrong as she'd hoped she had been.

"How was Boston? How is Ed? How are you?" she rattled off the questions, the smile on her face now evident in her tone. She missed him a lot and as much as she'd been avoiding him mere minutes before, it was really good to hear his voice.
