David wasn't hurt or upset at all when she didn't return his words. He felt selfish even saying them and he certainly wasn't pushing for her to reciprocate or anything.
Honestly, he wouldn't have minded knowing her inner thoughts. He wasn't ready now, because there was school and then there'd be getting settled in his career, but right now? He couldn't think of anyone he wanted that forever with more than the girl right here with him. He'd known her for a few years, already, and even though he'd dated other girls, he'd definitely wanted her from the day they'd met. It had just taken him this long to act on it.
He returned the kiss she pulled him into, figuring that had to be a good sign he hadn't completely freaked her out by what he'd said. He smiled at her as she pulled back, his hand brushing lightly over her cheek as he nodded his head.
"Really," he smiled again, his hand moving under her chin as he brushed a light kiss over her lips again.
