Leaving? He was talking about leaving after graduation, which was a mere three months away, and really? She had no idea how to take that whole idea. A part of her really didn't even want to think about it at all because it bothered her far more than she cared to admit. It hurt and the idea of not seeing him at all anymore was a painful one. Things were bad enough when he was just ignoring her, or when he had taken that small trip, but for him to be gone from her life completely? That was something she was entirely unsure if she'd even be able to handle at all. Complications aside, she'd known him her entire life, and Marlene was not the sort of person who easily let go of those sorts of attachments.
But then there were those other complications to factor him. Oh, with him being gone? Him being gone meant she was fine and settled and oh-so-certain about the events and choices in her life. A hand came up to twist her fingers around the necklace she was wearing. The one that, not even a full month ago, she'd gotten as a gift and hadn't been happier with her life than she did at that moment. Of course, the second that Nate was back and speaking to her again, everything felt strange and weird and confusing again. On top of that, the topic of past mistakes coming up and out certainly didn't help matters either.
And now he wanted to leave. Not just leave, oh no. Move away for good and completely leave Chicago and everything else behind him.
She'd wanted to actually sit and talk to him for a while now, but that was the thing that finally pushed her over the edge. Tightening her jacket around her small frame, she shifted her feet a bit before knocking at his front door. She hadn't even bothered with commenting or calling or anything first. Acting before doing? Yeah, that was something she was good at. Truth be told, she was still a little unsure of exactly what she wanted to say at the moment, but decided to ignore that fact. As she waited, she carefully tucked her necklace away, eyes focused on the ground as she inhaled and exhaled sharply, waiting.
