"Hannah, don't..." Joseph reached out for her, trying to stop her from running out after Matt but when he pushed himself away from the desk, his head pounded and he ended up slumping against it again.
He couldn't remember ever being hit so hard... not even on the football field. Then again, he had a helmet when he was on the field.
While the voices in the hall were muffled, he caught bits and pieces of the conversation. As happy as he was that Hannah had agreed to be his, his brow furrowed when he heard the pain in his friend's voice. He'd known that Matt wasn't going to take this well but he seemed to lose all of that when he was with Hannah.
A part of him wanted to push through the pain and follow his girl into the hall but the rest of him knew that the former couple needed to say their peace without interruption.
Tentatively, he pressed his fingers to the side of his eye and winced when he touched swollen, sore skin. Fuck, that hurt!
