Ana had been really surprised to find that she'd missed a call from Caleb while she was in class. She was almost sure that he knew her schedule... she always kept up with his, after all. However, after listening to the voice mail he'd left her, she assumed that he'd meant to miss her. To be truthful, she didn't know what to say to him about his apology. It was a touchy subject. Really, a part of her just wanted to avoid the subject. She didn't want things to be awkward between them... not so soon after they'd appeared to patch things up. (Ignoring the kisses they'd shared in the break room, that is.)
Deciding it was best to call him, she flipped her phone open, hit the speed dial for his number and waited for him to answer the phone.
Caleb had known Ana would be in class when he left the message. That had been the point. He could say what he wanted to say, but not if she would interrupt him. Sitting in his room, he was doing some homework for his Child Psych class. Hearing that great ring tone by Buckcherry, 'Crazy Bitch' he smiled and picked up. Ana was calling him. "Hello?"
Almost as if by magic, her entire face lit up when she finally heard Caleb's voice on the other end of the line. "Hey!" she greeted him happily. "How are you?" Ana was walking across the parking lot to her car and her pace slowed a little as she spoke to him. "I was just... well, I thought I'd call and see what you were up to." That was a lie, an obvious one at that, she just hoped he'd let it slide.
Hearing her voice, Caleb smiled even more. Closing his book, he decided she deserved his full attention. "I'm okay, I guess. Been a little... what's the word..." Looking up, he tried to think of exactly what he meant. "Guess you could say I've been a little retarted lately. As for me? I'm doing some homework. How was class?"
"It was class," she answered, her nose curling slightly. "Numbers and formulas... you know, all things boring." It was no secret that Ana hated her classes. Or, more specifically, she hated the ones that weren't connected to dance. She attended them, though, and even managed to pull decent grades."Homework is boring," she finally told him, a smirk evident in her tone. "You should take a break... get some lunch... something."
"Well... I really kind of want to finish this homework up..." Okay, now or never, right? "How about a break from studying for dinner? Or even better... Dinner and a movie?"
Her nose curled again when he seemed to protest her suggestion of taking a break. "Caleb, you're far to studio..." her words trailed off when he suggested that he take a break and go to dinner. "I suppose you could," she agreed with a smile. "It'd be awfully boring to go to dinner and a movie all by yourself, though." Now, Ana knew that Caleb was basically asking her to go with him. However, he hadn't made that remotely clear... she couldn't help teasing him a bit, could she?
Caleb shook his head and laughed. "You always have to be a pain in the butt, don't you? Ana... will you go to dinner and a movie with me?"
Ana was laughing a little as she slid her key into the lock and opened her car door. "Not always," she answered. "Just when you make it so easy." She unceremoniously threw her book bag into the passenger seat as she slid into the drivers. "You know that I'm always willing to spend time with you," she told him, a smile still on her fact. "Of course, I'll go to dinner and a movie with you... as long as you don't pick some lame movie." Teasing... joking... it was what they did. Things didn't feel normal if they could carry on as they usually did.
"I don't make it easy... You just jump on any chance to tease!" Smiling, he swiveled in his chair. "Just so you know... I didn't mean or... I meant as more than friends." Biting his lip, Caleb waited for her answer.
"I do not!" she protested, the smile obvious in her tone. Ana slid the key into the ignition and started her car. When he explained further, her brow sort of furrowed as she thought through his invitation. She wasn't officially or exclusively dating Elliot and while she wouldn't usually date two guys at the same time, this was Caleb... she didn't want to turn him down. "Oh," she answered softly. "In that case..." she paused just to be mean, "...of course I'll go to dinner and a movie with you... as long as you don't pick some lame movie." It wasn't in her to not tease him... not even when he was seriously asking her on a date.
Caleb couldn't help but smile when she finally agreed to go out. "Actually I have a better idea, but... You'll see what it is when I pick you up." He knew how much she loved dancing, so what better date? Country line dancing, as much as he wish he could deny it, was something most Texans did at one point or another in their life. And? Caleb actually enjoyed it.
Ana locked her car door as she sat there and talked to him on the phone. "So we're not going to dinner and a movie?" she asked, her brow cocked in an amused fashion.
Smirking, Caleb knew she was confused. "I have to keep you wondering, don't I?" Leaning back in his chair, he looked up at the ceiling. "No movie, but definitely some dinner."
"Well, a girl has to eat, doesn't she?" she grinned. "She might as well do it with a pretty boy at her side..."
"So that's all I am to you? A pretty boy?" Oh was Caleb going to show her. He wasn't sure if she knew he could dance. He wasn't great, but he could definitely hold his own. "Tonight at 7?"
"That's not all you are," she teased. "You're also really strong and that will come in handy when we go to Italy this summer." While it would be nice for him to do all the heavy lifting with luggage and such, she was teasing him and the smile on her face was definitely showing in tone. "That sounds great," she agreed. "I can't wait."
"I'll carry my bags. If you're nice to me, maybe I'll help you with yours." Standing up, he did a doofy little dance. Ana had said yes! "I'll pick you up. I'm warning you though, wear something comfy, but cute. I'll see you tonight."
Ana couldn't help smiling at his comment. "If you carry my bags," she teased, "maybe I'll be even nicer." She was teasing him, again, and that made her happy. Excluding the fact that they were about to go out on a real date, things seemed to be getting back to normal. "I'm always cute," she told him with an amused shake of her head. "See you at seven."
