Fucked up? An understatement. The past month or so had been nothing but drama and Rhi found herself, once again, in the middle of it all. This was what she got for keeping in touch with her underclassman friends. And quite frankly, there was no doubt in her mind that the drama would start up again. That was what high school was known for. Dramatic episode after dramatic episode. It was sad when you could watch teenage soap operas and relate them to your real life, but that was the case.
Marlene may have said that she'd made up her mind, but Rhi knew better. She'd change it again. She'd get bored with what she had and want something knew. In fact? Rhi wasn't entirely sure that her friend would be happy no matter what her choice was. What difference did it make? The difference was that Nate? Yeah. She kind of adored him. She wanted him to be happy. And knowing that he was hurting...well, it hurt her.
Another complication? Rhi still had feelings for Nate. Nothing she'd ever admit to, no, but she did. She knew it was ridiculous, that they were better off as friends, but she couldn't help it. He was a lot of firsts for her and that would always stay with her. Sure, one day she'd get over him completely, but he'd always be the one she compared every other man to.
Stupid. But, meh. She did a lot of stupid things.
Honestly, she never really considered Knocked Up to be a chick flick. It was like softcore porn more than anything else. And it was hysterical. Sure it had a romance plot to it, but it was something for everyone. Something like The Notebook? Yeah, no. She wasn't a fan of that sort of movie and, even if she was, she wasn't stupid enough to think he'd watch it with her.
She was watching repeats of Scrubs when she finally heard Nate's car pull up and the knock on the door. It had certainly been a while since this had happened. Of course then...yeah. We wouldn't go there, right now. "I've got it, daddy!" she called, then crossed her living room to the foyer and pulled the door open. "Hey," she smiled up at him.
Really? She missed him in more ways than she was willing to let on. Who could blame her? Deep down, he was an amazing guy, and who knew that better than she did? She stepped back and let him into the house. "I certainly hope you won't want to end your life too badly, this evening."
