Max couldn't tell if she was being coy or if she was really guessing. Either way, he wouldn't make a big deal about it. He couldn't hide the slightest bit of a laugh before nodding. "Mmhmm, that they do. Of course, there's a special way they go in, just to keep things fair for both of us."
He took the balls off of the little square tray he'd dug up from behind the bar and began to place them into the triangle. Max alternated the striped balls and solid balls, placing the eight ball in the center.
Before long, the rack was in place and removed, and Max was rolling the cue ball back and forth between his hands. "Normally, whoever racks shoots second," he added, stepping back from the table. "In which case, the break is yours. So, show me what you've got."
