The minute Gianna had asked about her mother, Gus had bristled. He didn't want to know. He knew it was important to Gianna and all that... but it was as much of an adjustment for him as it was for her. Gus didn't realize he was being possessive over his father, but the truth of things was that for twenty-eight years, he had been his father's only kid.
Finding out that Gianna was the product of one of his father's many affairs hadn't dramatically affected his friendship with her, but as for how it would affect things between him and his own father, that would remain to be seen.
"She's nice." His thought process was interrupted by his father speaking. "I like her." Gus couldn't exactly tell if he was speaking about Gianna in a way that was appropriate; for a moment it sounded like he was trying to convince Gus to marry the girl.
Already tried that road, thank you very much.
"Yeah, she is," he said. It was all he could make come out of his mouth at the moment. Gus glanced back in the direction of the hallway, listening for sounds of movement. He thought he could hear her, but he thought it best to let her be.
