He had twenty-eight years of experience in handling Tony Bentley. Gus's dad was a character, and a handful. He wasn't an asshole, even if he could be a bit of a pig sometimes. But Gus didn't know what Gianna would be expecting. This was why the meeting made him feel a bit uncomfortable. He had no idea about Gianna's expectations, and he worried about her feelings getting hurt. Sure, he was used to dealing with his dad... but what would Gianna think of him? What would his dad think of her?
"I don't know why I didn't fire him, actually," Tony said, folding the newspaper over and setting it on the table. He got to his feet and walked out towards the main sitting room, deciding to take up some space on the couch. "Does he still work for you?"
Gus not only heard Gianna knock, but he'd been able to hear her muttering to herself through the door. He nodded, then took a deep breath. She was nervous, and that made him nervous. "Yes, Dad. I'm not going to fire him just because he has a moustache. He's one of the most experienced guys on the team." He moved to the door to let Gianna in.
"She's here," he said, looking at his father. "Be nice."
"Don't be stupid. I'm always nice."
He pulled the door open and smiled at Gianna. "Hey. You okay?" Gus kept his voice down. Her view of his father was obstructed by the open door. "He doesn't bite, I promise."
