Lyla opened her mouth to answer his question, but then she spotted the basket and the wine and she found herself distracted.
"Oh, are those for me?" she asked, clearly impressed as she started to inspect the gifts a little more closely. "Wow.. Matt, you didn't have to.." She really hadn't expected anything from him. Sure, she got him something, but that was just the kind of girl Lyla was. She tended to get gifts for anyone she knew at all.
It wasn't a bad surprise at all, of course, and that showed in the way she was smiling as she looked the gifts over. "This is really nice, Matt," she added. "Thank you..."
She realized, then, that she hadn't given him an answer about where there were going and she hastily suggested a quiet, out of the way Indian place she knew of, not actually thinking about why a quiet place with dark corners - one that was generally all but empty - would be a bad idea if she expected to keep her resolution.
