David breathed a sigh of relief when she assured him that he wasn't intruding. His hand shifted to hold her a little more tightly, simultaneously pulling her closer to him and his head dipped, his tone soft and low as he cut off her protests with a shake of his head, pressing one finger from his other hand to her lips to stop them moving.
"You look beautiful," he told her firmly, "just like you always do."
Maybe he was biased. Probably, he was completely infatuated with the girl, but his words were sincere. He really did think she looked amazing.
His hand shifted, moving the finger from her lips so her could rub a thumb over her cheek, though he didn't kiss her, not yet. He wasn't sure why he didn't, because he really wanted to and his face was definitely close enough to hers now that it was making it hard not to.
Maybe he just sensed that she was a little down or he was worried that she wouldn't want him to, either way, it seemed he was going to wait for her to make the first move this time.
