"Visiting you, of course," he grinned as he held the flowers out to her. He couldn't help thinking that even in old, ratty sweats, even with no makeup and messy hair, she was easily the most beautiful girl he knew as he bent down to lightly kiss her cheek.
"Besides," he added, using what was probably the lamest excuse to fly cross country ever, "I didn't get the chance to give you all of your Christmas gifts... and New Years would be horribly boring without you, anyway.."
No, he wasn't going to just come right out and admit that he missed her or that he'd decided that being with the real thing was definitely better than lounging around with pillows that still smelled like her. He couldn't afford to admit it, not to himself, not with school starting back up so soon, so he played it off a bit lighter than that now.
Though, he'd been serious about the gifts, which should have been obvious as he held out the small jewelry box and the larger chocolate-filled one.
