WHO Wesley Votan (Voltan) & Kate Durden (Rain) WHAT Random run-in? WHEN Thursday afternoon, Dec 20 WHERE Ah... Randomised New Orleans lunch bar STATUS Incomplete // TBA
Working odd hours gave you odd food habits. That's the reason Kate was at the lunch bar at two o'clock, eating the same make-shift breakfast as always. Work didn't start until six o'clock, but she couldn't bear to sleep that long. So she usually got up around one in the afternoon, was at work from six till two in the morning, got home to sleep for approximately five hours before waking up to get some time with her kids before their schoolday begun at eight. After that, she would go to sleep again, waking up around one o'clock. Yes, it was an odd way to lead her life, but she'd gotten used to it. The sleeping pattern had evolved slowly, as she didn't want to miss out on too much time with her son, and she did get the proper amount of sleep she needed.
Sipping at her coffee, she gave a light start when her cell phone started ringing. With designated ringtones, Kate knew who was calling without looking at the caller ID. "Hi, honey," she said with a smile as she answered. "How are you? Good. Do you get out early today? We could go looking at those clothes you wanted to buy." She lifted her coffee mug again, listening.
|Wesley| Wesley was taking a late lunch, himself. The office was dreadfully boring today, but work had needed to be done and in the end it was better to do it all in one sweep and put off eating until it was done that to take a break at the "normal" time.
He couldn't help smiling around the sandwich he'd just lifted to his mouth as the blonde woman near him answered her phone. He'd seen her in here before - it seemed she frequented the place as much as he did, but for some odd reason, he'd never really spoken to her before.
Maybe today would be different and he'd actually say hello once she was done with her call.
|Kate| "Yes, honey. No, I promise. ...Yes, at six. See you later then, love you. Oh, and there's food in the fridge. Yes, bye." Pocketing her phone again, Kate gave a small yawn. Sometimes she missed her old job as a journalist, with regular work times. But working night at the hospital was more personally rewarding, in the end. And she did get to see her kids, depite the odd work times.
As she took a bite of her sandwich, she noticed the man a few tables away looking at her. She gave him a smile, "My son. He wanted to know if he could go to the cinema with a friend." It was perhaps a random thing to say, but interaction was always nice. Plus, he was a familiar face, even if they'd never spoken before.
|Wesley| Wes nodded at her explanation. He'd guessed something similar from her side of the conversation and he flashed her a slight smile.
"You don't look old enough to have a son old enough for the cinema," he told her, partly because she didn't, really, and partly because he seemed to be in an oddly flirtatious mood.
|Kate| Giving a slight laugh, Kate glanced down for a brief moment before looking back at him. "Well, thanks..." It was a nice compliment, after all, just not expected. "He's thirteen. I've got a daughter at eight as well." She smiled at him, not quite sure whether to continue the conversation or not. Then again, so far, so good. "I'm Kate, nice to meet you. Or well, talk to you. You come here quite often, don't you?"
|Wesley| She had a nice laugh, Wes though idly as he nodded his head while she talked about her children. And she definitely had to be older than he'd first though, judging by their ages.
"I do," he answered her question with a grin. "My office is around the corner, so it's a convenient spot for lunch." Pause. "I see you in here quite often, too," he added, someone pleased to note she'd noticed him before.
