Ashleigh wasn't ignoring him, she wouldn't do that after everything he'd gone through.
At first, his softly spoken words hadn't managed to penetrate the little world she'd locked herself into. When they did, she looked up at the door.
"Just... just a minute," she called, trying even harder to get herself together.
It was stupid to pretend that she wasn't upset but she really didn't want him to see her like this. The way she'd been when he'd called her during the Thanksgiving break.
"Hold on."
After flushing the toilet, she walked over to the sink and ran cool water over her hands. After pressing her hands to her cheeks, she took the hand towel and blotted herself dry.
Okay... she could do this.
When she opened the door, she forced a smile. "I'm... I'm really sorry about that," she apologized. "I... I should have warned you or something. It's just really hard to explain, you know. Sometimes you just have to... I don't know, ignore her or something." She took a deep breath. "Sorry. Really sorry."
