Ed hadn't done this whole meeting the parents thing a lot, but he did have his natural, southern charm going for him. There weren't many people he couldn't win over and he was confident this visit was going to go well.
When they were left alone briefly, he'd stolen a few kisses and told his girlfriend he really liked her father and how he was looking forward to meeting her mother at dinner.
Poor, foolish guy.
He was perfectly polite and cheerful through dinner, making the standard polite comments about how delicious everything was, basically being his usual, charming self, and he didn't think anything of the woman's question when she finally spoke up.
"Only a few months, ma'am," he answered, "but it feels like much longer. She's pretty amazing."
